Five men entered the house in the Roemill Road area of the town at about 1930 GMT on Sunday.
One of the gang stayed with the pensioner while the others ransacked her home and handbag. They then escaped with a sum of money. Mr Robinson, who knows the woman well, said it was an "absolute disgrace".
"I hope the people who did this are ashamed of themselves. "This lady is the salt of the earth, one of life's ladies, that's how I would describe her. "It's an absolute disgrace." A neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said elderly people in the area were living in fear after the attack.
"We're terrified, afraid to stay in at night and afraid to go out."
