Jason Jolley, 37 admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug and also driving while disqualified.
Jason Jolley, 37, who was banned from driving, was stopped on the A75 near Gretna in February. The High Court in Glasgow heard how police officers searching his Citroen C5 found three bags of heroin in an ashtray in the back of the car.He admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug and also driving while disqualified.Judge Lord Bracadale said Jolley, a prisoner in Dumfries, already had two previous convictions for drug trafficking. He jailed him for five years and seven months and banned him from driving for six years.Jolley will have to serve 150 days in prison before starting his prison term because he committed the offence while on early release from a previous sentence.Prosecutor Stephen O'Rourke told the court that officers were on mobile patrol when they received a tip-off to watch out for the car. When they stopped and searched the vehicle they found drugs with a maximum value of £7,560.Defence advocate George Gebbie said his client was transporting the heroin because he owed money to a drugs boss after being arrested for trafficking on a previous occasion.Mr Gebbie added: "He fully accepts that he finds himself in this position through his own fault due to his very first involvement with this kind of behaviour."
