Three men were remanded in custody after appearing in court yesterday charged with conspiracy to supply one of the largest hauls of heroin ever seized in Britain.
The three appeared at Richmond Magistrates Court in south-west London charged with conspiracy to supply up to £20m ($40m, 25m euros) worth of the hard drug.
"This is one of the largest ever seizures of heroin by police in the UK," said Detective Chief Inspector Peter Beyer, from the Specialist Crime Central Task Force of London's Metropolitan Police.
Harminder Chana, 30, and Atif Khan, 32, both from east London, and Patrick Kuster, 35, from the Netherlands, were told to reappear at nearby Kingston Crown Court on June 9. No applications for bail were made.
The magistrates heard how on Thursday police seized 356kg of heroin with a street value of up to £20m from two cars at a motorway service station near Maidstone, south-east of London.
