Olga Escobedo Strom was stopped in a car, after leaving a known drug house. Officers found found a bag of heroin as well as marijuana inside the vehicle. Police say the 41-year-old teacher helped destroy the drugs before police could pick them up off the floorboard.
Parents told News 4 they planned to speak to the principal to find out more about the teacher and her arrest.
"The school's gonna do everything to make sure that the high quality of teaching and learning continues in that classroom," said SAISD spokesperson Carmen Vasquez-Gonzales.
Teachers at Crockett Elementary said Strom is an excellent teacher and cannot believe she was arrested for having drugs.
"The children are the one's that are going to feel it the most by not having their teacher there on a regular basis," said Vasquez-Gonzales.
For now, a substitute teacher has taken over Ms. Strom's class. Strom has been put on administrative leave, pending the outcome of this investigation.
The principal of the school is also sending letters home to the parents, telling them about the arrest.
