Robert Michael Steinebach and 24-year-old Candice Maree Brayton were arrested at the Brisbane International Airport yesterday after arriving on a flight from Hong Kong.
It is alleged the pair were trying to import between six and 10 kilograms of cocaine which was found in the false bottom of a suitcase.
Brayton appeared briefly in court this morning and was remanded in custody until a further committal mention hearing next month.
Steinebach denies any involvement but his application for bail was refused to allow federal police more time to establish his connection to Brayton. He is due to again face court via video link on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Northern Territory police have arrested two men at Darwin Airport for alleged drug possession.
Police say an estimated 65 grams of cannabis was found in a 22-year-old man's bag as he tried to board a plane for Groote Eylandt yesterday.
A 48-year-old man was found to have 35 grams of the drug hidden in his pockets on the same flight.
The 22-year-old will face court in Darwin this afternoon, while the 48-year-old will appear in Alyangula Court next week.

We're praying for her because we know the real Candace would never do something like this unless she was put up to it...for all we know she didn't have a choice.
candace has made a terrible mistake and will pay for it the rest of her life...but she is still my daughter and i love her with all my heart..her involvement with the wrong people and her life style decisions she has made in the past where making her life head in the wrong direction...candace will take this experience and turn her life around and use the time in brisbane wisely..she is a good person who made a very bad decision....she is probably better off in the australian prison system then canada's..she will be treated fairly in brisbane..candace did not grow up in a house of drugs..you know why..because i raised her as a single parent..through-out her teen years on vancouver island she was very productive and was a normal teenager....some people have to learn respect for the law the hard way....i guess...candace will become a better person because of this unfortunate experience of poor judgement.....
when you think of candace..smile..she is a good soul
i love you hon
i love you cando
oxox
Good luck to all of you.
it doesn't take a rocket scientist to think "if I get caught with this, I could go to jail for a very very long time, and it could ruin the rest of my life".
to have done this, taking a risk like this that her family and friends will have to deal with is really dumb and in my opinion really selfish. no disrespect intended, I just see anything related to drugs and especially drug trafficking as really really selfish.
candace is still in brisbane and we are hoping she gets sentenced
in may or june
we pray for time served
she is doing well all considered...
the man you talk of is one lucky bloke.how would one find such a person?
